I have been searching for my passion for many years before I started jordico.com. It was a journey that took me many years and I can hopefully help you to cut this time down significantly.
It took me the start of 3 separate businesses in completely different areas until I found what I was really passionate about. 2 of them made some serious money but every minute I put into it was a drag and no fun at all.
Early in 2012 I decided to attend a course from Corbett Barr, Start a Blog That Matters. At the beginning of this program, there is an exercise on how to find what you are passionate about. It contains several steps and I will outline the 3 most important ones that helped me to find my passion, jordico.com.
The Exercise
1. Put together a list of topics you are passionate about and love doing. This can be hobbies, business topics or anything else that you love. Don’t think too much about how to monetize it, I believe you can monetize anything if you are 100% committed and passionate about it.
2. Make a list of things you are great at. These can be long-term experience or something you give others advice about in your private and work life.
3. What can you imagine doing for the next 10-20 years, every day, without getting bored? This is very important if you choose to start a blog because to be able to be successful, a lot of initial work but also continuous work is required.
Think about it for a while and do extensive brainstorming until you are absolutely out of ideas. When you finish with the lists, cross out anything that does not match in all three areas.
After the clean up my list contained:
Recruitment / Social Media / Consulting & Coaching
This was the beginning of jordico.com and I never looked back. It was one of the best decisions to start this business because every minute I put into it feels amazing.
